WASHINGTON — The day after former special counsel Robert Mueller’s long-awaited testimony, four more House members — including Massachusetts Representatives Katherine Clark and Lori Trahan — came out in favor of launching an impeachment inquiry into President Trump, despite resistance from party leaders. Their announcements brought to nearly 100 the number of House Democrats who want to start impeachment proceedings.

President Trump and his supporters pounced instantly. Trump sardonically tweeted his “thanks” to the Democrats for bringing the former special counsel before them. Later, speaking at the White House, Trump told reporters, “We had a very good day today.”

But some of the points that Mueller enunciated were seriously problematic for the president.

Senate Republicans blocked two election security bills and a cybersecurity measure on Wednesday in the wake of former special counsel MORE warning about meddling attempts during his public testimony before congressional lawmakers.   Democrats tried to get consent to pass two bills that would require campaigns to alert the FBI and Federal Election Commission about foreign offers of assistance, as well as a bill to let the Senate Sergeant at Arms offer voluntary cyber assistance for personal devices and accounts of senators and staff.  But Sen.

Former special counsel MORE sat for six hours of testimony on Wednesday, his first time answering questions about his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. Democrats used their allotted time to shine a spotlight on key details from the 448-page report, while Republicans used their line of questioning to cast doubt on the origins of the 22-month investigation and the credibility of the special counsel’s office. The back-to-back testimony before the House Judiciary and Intelligence committees yielded little new information, thoug

Mueller has said that he will not stray beyond what’s already been revealed in his 448-page report. The Justice Department has instructed Mueller to stay strictly within those parameters, giving him a formal directive to point to if he faces questions he does not want to answer. On Tuesday, Democrats on the House judiciary and intelligence panels granted his request to have his top aide in the investigation, Aaron Zebley, sit at the table with him.

The bad day for the Democrats was shown in no better way than that Speaker Nancy Pelosi was a whopping 48 minutes late to a planned 5:00 p.m. press conference after Mueller’s testimony, where she was flanked by the chairmen of the two committees before which Mueller testified and a third who has helped the investigation. During the press conference, a babbling Pelosi struggled to explain for more than 20 minutes what the public learned from Mueller’s oftentimes incoherent testimony–all while she, House Intelligence Committee chairman Rep.
