In the course of a relatively brief negotiating session at the White House, Trump largely sided with Democratic leaders as they pushed for the three-month deal.

A group of bipartisan lawmakers in the House and Senate known as the Problem Solvers Caucus met Tuesday night to discuss the fall legislative agenda, as Congress returned to Washington for the first time since the August recess. Legislative items set for discussion included health care, taxes and how Congress will address the debt limit. Caucus members also discussed the fate of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program shielding young undocumented immigrants from deportation, which the Trump administration announced earlier it will rescind.

Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez blasted President Trump on Tuesday, calling him a “champion for cruelty” after his administration announced it was ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. “Rescinding DACA is the latest tactic in the Republican playbook to promote hate and discrimination. Because of the Republican party, DREAMers will lose their ability to go to work and contribute to their communities. Deportations will tear families apart and drive immigrants back into the shadows,” Perez said. “DREAMers share our values and strengthen our nation.

In a news conference following the call, Turnbull said he and Trump had a "very warm" and "very constructive" discussion about North Korea, the Islamic State in the Philippines and Hurricane Harvey. "We are absolutely of the one mind in condemning this reckless conduct," he said, according to BuzzFeed.
