Just a month remains until New Hampshire voters cast ballots in the first-in-the-nation primary. The result will matter. Historically, if Granite Staters affirm Iowa’s choice, then that candidate has always won their party’s presidential nomination. However, the last two times the decision was split, it led to a protracted 50-state campaign marathon through June. From time to time this past year, the Globe has set out to answer this question: If the New Hampshire primary were held today, who would win?

Back to the Battleground series. Erie County on the western edge of the state, which swung by more than 16 points. Trump appealed to traditionally Democratic union voters with his message of bringing back jobs to the area and many bucked union leaders in supporting him over Democrat Hillary Clinton. Even though Trump has failed to jumpstart manufacturing, a local construction boom has boosted the economy and may help the president overcome his low popularity there. Hazleton was a hotbed of racial tension.

new poll from The Des Moines Register and CNN. The poll showed that Sanders was the first choice for 20% of would-be caucusgoers, a 5% increase from November, when the Register last polled the state. He was followed closely by Elizabeth Warren at 17%, Pete Buttigieg at 16% and Joe Biden at 15%. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points. The results are the latest sign that Sanders — lifted by his loyal supporters and an unchanging message — has strong campaign momentum heading into the Feb.

Andrew Yang’s (D) campaign on Saturday blasted the Democratic National Committee (DNC) after the presidential hopeful failed to meet the polling threshold required to participate in next week’s debate in Des Moines, Iowa. Yang failed to meet the required polling threshold ahead of the January 10 deadline, which required candidates to garner at least five percent support in at least four DNC-approved polls or seven percent in two early state polls — Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and South Carolina.
