John Kingston, who is facing faces an April 28 Republican convention to get on the primary ballot, tore up his party registration after Trump got the nomination in 2016.   Capital Source State Senator Joseph Boncore will not run for Suffolk district attorney. Neither will City Councilor Michael Flaherty.  Capital Source Alex Goldstein was press secretary for Deval Patrick during his 2010 gubernatorial campaign.  Herbie Ziskend’s baseball glove won’t make it into Barack Obama’s presidential library.

There’s a quintet of notable figures from the state showing up on political forecasters’ lists of possible 2020 contenders.  Voters only have two months to learn how to use the complex new system before primary day.   The Texas Republican was facing an ethics investigation after using taxpayer funds to settle a sexual harassment claim from a former staffer.  Sean Hannity and Fox News are certainly not Jimmy Kimmel’s ‘‘and Friends,’’ as the late night host put it Thursday night.

Democrats are lashing out at the notion that MORE and GOP leaders may seek to eliminate some of the funding increases in the enormous 2018 spending package adopted less than two weeks ago.  Republicans have come under fire in their districts during the spring recess after supporting the $1.3 trillion omnibus bill, which provides a huge bump in both defense and domestic spending, adding hundreds of billions of dollars to federal deficits.
