The presidential news conference, a time-honored tradition going back generations, appears to be no longer. More than a year has passed since President Donald Trump held the only solo news conference of his administration — a rollicking, hastily arranged, 77-minute free-for-all during which he railed against the media, defended his fired national security adviser and insisted nobody who advised his campaign had had contacts with Russia. But there are no signs the White House press shop is interested in a second go-round.

A mystery is brewing at the Emmanuel Macron planted there last week. The sapling was a gift from Macron on the occasion of his state visit. News photographers snapped away Monday when Trump and Macron shoveled dirt onto the tree during a ceremonial planting on the South Lawn. By the end of the week, the tree was gone from the lawn.

There will be plenty of guns at the National Rifle Convention in Dallas this week, but one room will be completely free of weapons. The NRA announced gun owners, even those legally allowed to carry them, will not be allowed to carry guns or knives during Vice President Mike Pence's address Friday at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Arena. "Due to the attendance of the Vice President of the United States, the U.S. Secret Service will be responsible for event security at the NRA-ILA Leadership Forum," the NRA's statement to attendees reads.

President Donald Trump may have skipped out on the White House Correspondents’ dinner Saturday night for the second year in a row, but White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders didn’t escape a scathing roasting from comedian Michelle Wolf, the headliner of the evening. "I have to say I’m a little star-struck," Wolf said, directing her joke at the press secretary.
