Beto 2020 calls multiply among Dems | TheHill

Democrats are seeing a silver lining to Rep. MORE (R).  It means O’Rourke, who emerged in the midterms as a progressive star, is free to run for president.  Talk of O’Rourke running for the White House would have happened if he had defeated Cruz, to be sure.

MORE's trip to France to mark the centennial of the end of World War I was overshadowed by controversy, underscoring the fraying relationship between the president and his European allies. In his less than 48 hours in Paris, Trump lashed out at French President Emmanuel Macron on Twitter, drew widespread condemnation after canceling a trip to a cemetery in northern France and found his nationalist agenda the target of a thinly veiled public rebuke. The weekend revealed a noticeable change in tone in the relationship between Trump and Macron, who earlier in the year ha

Rep. Kyrsten Sinema (D) expanded her lead over Rep. MORE (R-Ariz.) in Arizona’s too-close-to-call Senate race, after more ballots from the state’s largest county were released Sunday night. Sinema has grown her slim lead to 32,640 votes, which is a margin of 1.51 percentage points. The latest release includes about 36,000 ballots from Maricopa County, the largest county in the state that includes Phoenix, according to Garrett Archer, an analyst for the Arizona secretary of state.

Dem wins leave behind a more conservative GOP conference | TheHill

Tuesday’s blue wave in the House is set to leave behind a GOP conference that is far more conservative — and more loyal to MORE. A large chunk of centrist Republicans were either wiped out at the polls on Tuesday or are planning to retire at the end of this Congress, while the ultra-conservative House Freedom Caucus is actually expected to expand its ranks next year. That means that when Republicans assume their new role in the minority, the GOP will largely be unified as they rally against the Democratic agenda and defend Trump from an onslaught of investigations and

Schumer’s headaches to multiply in next Congress | TheHill

The 2020 presidential election is going to be a headache for Senate Democratic Leader MORE (N.Y.). To have a chance of winning the Senate majority in 2020, Democrats will have to win over centrist voters in states such as Colorado, Maine, Iowa, North Carolina and Alabama. The best way to do that for Schumer is to keep his caucus focused on health care and other practical middle-class issues. But the half dozen Senate Democrats vying for the party’s presidential nomination will have just as much — if not more interest — in hitting on hot-button topics that rev up the l

“This day reminds all Americans that they sleep soundly at night because of the sacrifices of millions of ordinary men and women,” Wilkie said. “It is for all who have served at all the lonely outposts, and the military at home and in distant lands, who left families and loved ones and who overcame challenges that many of us would find unimaginable,” he said. He noted the 100th anniversary of World War I, which was once believed to be the “war to end all wars.” “On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, men who have lived and fought in trenches that scarred the face of Europe emerged
