Trump and Hungary’s Viktor Orban both have espoused hard-line anti-migration rhetoric. Orban says he hopes he and Trump can coordinate that stance into a global alliance. ATLANTA — Former US President Jimmy Carter broke his hip Monday at his Georgia home, underwent successful surgery, and was recovering comfortably, a spokeswoman for the Carter Center said. Carter was on his way to go turkey hunting, the spokeswoman, Deanna Congileo, said in a statement. She said that he was treated in Americus, Georgia, near his home in Plains, and that his wife, Rosalynn, was with him. In the statement, Congileo said: ‘‘President Carter said his main concern is that turkey season ends this week, and he has not reached his limit.

HELENA, Mont. (AP) — Montana Gov. Steve Bullock says he is seeking the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination. The 53-year-old on Tuesday became the third governor in a race with almost two dozen candidates, but Bullock is the only statewide elected official to win a state that President Donald Trump carried in 2016. That’s a key part of Bullock’s argument.

MORE will roll out a new immigration proposal on Thursday at a White House Rose Garden event, putting the spotlight back on his signature issue as the 2020 presidential campaign kicks into high gear. The plan, crafted by Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser, MORE, would create a “merit-based” visa system that gives preference to migrants with coveted job skills instead of relatives of other immigrants.

Frustrated Senate Republicans say the Trump administration has largely kept them in the dark about a possible military confrontation with Iran. What GOP lawmakers already know, however, has them on edge.
