LONDON (AP) — British lawmakers battling Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s plan to leave the European Union without a divorce deal took a big step Wednesday toward passing a law that could stop him from implementing his vow to deliver Brexit in less than two months, ‘‘do or die.’’ In a second straight day of parliamentary turmoil, the House of Commons voted by 327-299 in favor of the bill, sending it to Parliament’s upper chamber, the House of Lords. An earlier version was approved 329-300. Even so, the bill’s fate is unsure.

WASHINGTON — Top Democratic presidential contenders talked tough Wednesday on cutting climate-damaging emissions from oil, gas and coal, turning their focus to global warming in a marathon evening of town halls that gave the candidates a chance to distinguish themselves on a topic of growing importance to their party’s liberal base. The lengthy climate conversations promised to hand Republicans ammunition for next year’s general election fight by emphasizing one common element in the Democrats’ climate change plans: their overwhelming — and overwhelmingly costly — scope.

For Republicans hoping to run out the clock on gun reform, the weekend's mass shooting in Texas has complicated the math. The killings of seven people in Odessa by a lone gunman on Saturday has rekindled the push for stricter gun laws, rousing Democrats and outside reform advocates already energized by the summer’s tragedies. Walmart, one of the world’s largest retailers, announced Tuesday that it would limit its ammunition sales and request customers not openly carry firearms — a move immediately condemned by the National Rifle Association (NRA) as “shameful.”  Democrats have seized on the la

The Washington Post reported Tuesday: Cohen, who is serving a three-year prison sentence, has claimed that President Trump directed him to make the payments, although federal prosecutors declined to bring any charges against the president. Trump’s attorney Jay Sekulow said in a statement to the Post, “No campaign violations were engaged in by the president.” The Post described the plans as “a new chapter” in House Democrats’ consideration of whether to draft articles of impeachment against the president.
