Thousands of members of Washington D.C.'s Muslim community attended the funeral of Nabra Hassanen, 17, on Wednesday. Hassanen, a Muslim-American teenager was murdered early Sunday morning in what investigators called a "road-rage incident." More than 5,000 people honored Hassanen at her funeral in Sterling, Virginia on Wednesday. The news of Hassanen's murder has sparked both sorrow and outrage, as many view the incident as a hate crime that could have happened to other Muslim teenagers. "My daughter is 17 years old and she didn't know Nabra, but another friend knew her.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) poked at Democrats Wednesday for their optimism following Democratic candidate John Ossoff's loss in the Georgia special House election. The RNC mocked Democrats by editing a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) video so that it was superimposed with tweets critical of the party. The video was originally of the DCCC's chairman Ben Ray Luján discussing Ossoff's loss against GOP candidate Karen Handel in the runoff for a Georgia House seat.

The Congressional Women’s Softball Game, a yearly tradition pitting a bipartisan team of women in Congress against members of the press, went 2-1 on Wednesday in favor of the media’s team, the Bad News Babes, in a game that went down to the final pitch.  Last week's shooting at a congressional men’s baseball practice that left four injured, including House Majority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.), remained of large focus during the game. Crystal Griner, a police officer who was injured in the shooting and remains in a wheelchair, threw the first pitch at Wednesday's game.

The nation’s median age is 37.9 years old, more than two years higher than the median age in 2000, according to new Census Bureau numbers released Thursday. The number of Americans over 65 years old has jumped from 35 million at the turn of the century to 49.2 million today. Whites continue to be the biggest racial group in America, accounting for 256 million people in 2016.
