MORE tweeted an image of an American flag late Thursday amid reports that an airstrike had killed a top Iranian general in Iraq.  Trump’s tweet came around 9:30 p.m. Thursday night and was not accompanied by any text. The president sent the message after reports from Iraqi state television said that Gen. Qassim Soleimani, the head of Iran’s elite Quds Force, had been killed in an air strike at Baghdad’s international airport.     The Pentagon later said that Trump directed the strike against Soleimani, calling it a “decisive defensive action to protect U.S.

One of Iran’s most powerful generals was killed in a U.S. airstrike in Baghdad, the Pentagon confirmed Thursday, a development that is sure to send shockwaves throughout the Middle East and prompt retaliation from Iran.

“At the direction of the President, the U.S. military has taken decisive defensive action to protect U.S. personnel abroad by killing Qasem Soleimani, the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force, a U.S.-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization," the Pentagon said in a statement.

Murphy, who serves on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, tweeted on Tuesday: “The attack on our embassy in Baghdad is horrifying but predictable. Trump has rendered America impotent in the Middle East. No one fears us, no one listens to us.

HAZLETON, Pa. — Bob Curry is a man in constant motion, not unlike this fast-changing community he’s always championing. Passing a colorful mural in the community center he runs, its rainbow letters spelling out a Maya Angelou quote about the strength and beauty of diversity, he paused for effect. “You see our mural, if you don’t like it, get back on the elevator, you’re free to leave,” Curry proclaimed. He’s kidding — sort of.

MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. — The kettle steamed in the background as a familiar yet painful argument began to boil over between father and daughter in the Slewo home last Inauguration Day. “My president is going to be good for the Christians and the economy,” Warda Slewo, an ardent Donald Trump fan, told his daughter, Ashourina Slewo, in her small kitchen in the northeastern suburbs of Detroit on Jan. 20, 2017. “Your president is a racist,” Ashourina shot back.

NEW LONDON, Wis.—After it was clear that neither of her preferred candidates, Ben Carson and Ted Cruz, was going to be elected president in 2016, Linda Behm prayed. Behm is an evangelical Christian and keeps a calendar filled with volunteer shifts at a thrift store and a food pantry in this small community an hour away from Green Bay. She wasn’t sure about supporting Donald J. Trump, the New York business magnate with a penchant for insults and crude behavior.

WASHINGTON — Senator Bernie Sanders announced Thursday that he had raised significantly more money than every other presidential candidate in the Democratic field over the past three months — a period during which the 78-year-old suffered a heart attack that had many pundits writing him off for good. Sanders’ staggering $34.5 million haul — more than any Democrat raised in any quarter last year — shows the democratic socialist from Vermont continues to gain momentum in the race as his main rival on the left, Senator Elizabeth Warren, has lost her lead in polls and lagged beh
