Here's what you need to know about the Alabama senator-elect: Prior to stepping into the national spotlight in this special election Senate race, Jones spent most of his career working on the state level. He has worked as an assistant U.S. attorney in Birmingham, Alabama, and was appointed to the role as a U.S. attorney by then-President Bill Clinton in 1997. On his campaign website, Jones notes that while he was appointed by a Democratic president, he was confirmed by a majority-Republican Senate. Jones left the U.S. attorney's office in 2001 and worked in a private practice. He entered himself into the Senate special election race in May, vying for the seat left open when Donald Trump's Cabinet. During the campaign, Jones pointed to some of the biggest legal cases that he was involved with through the years.
