Article snippet: The top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee on Friday slammed President Trump's claim that fired FBI Director reported on Friday that Trump had told visiting Russian officials last week that firing Comey had taken "great pressure" off of him, because of the FBI's ongoing investigation into possible coordination between his campaign and Moscow during the 2016 election. Trump also told the Russian officials that Comey was "crazy" and "a nut job," according to the report. The revelation came days after the Washington Post reported that Trump had also divulged highly classified information during the Oval Office meeting with the Russians. The White House has faced a flurry of revelations in the wake of Comey's abrupt firing last week, among them that Trump had asked Comey in February to call off his bureau's investigation into fired national security adviser Michael Flynn. Comey agreed on Friday to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee, though a date for the hearing has not yet been announced. It will mark the first time former top cop goes before a congressional panel since his ouster. The intelligence committee is conducting a separate investigation into Russian efforts to interfere in the election, as well as the Trump campaign's alleged ties to Moscow.
