Article snippet: Canada's Armed Forces took an implicit swipe on Wednesday at President Trump's decision to ban transgender people from serving in the U.S. military.  "We welcome [Canadians] of all sexual orientations and gender identities. Join us!" the Canadian Armed Forces wrote on Twitter. Trump abruptly announced in a string of tweets Wednesday morning that he had decided to reimplement a ban on transgender service members, saying that transgender people "burdened" the military.  The proclamation reportedly took Pentagon officials by surprise, and spurred criticism from both Democratic and Republican lawmakers, including Sen. MORE (R-Ariz.), the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee. According to CBC News, the Canadian Armed Forces' existing policy provides guidance to military leaders on preventing discrimination and harassment based on service members' gender identity.    The Hill 1625 K Street, NW Suite 900 Washington DC 20006 | 202-628-8500 tel | 202-628-8503 fax The contents of this site are ©2017 Capitol Hill Publishing Corp., a subsidiary of News Communications, Inc.
