Johnson always gave the impression of being something out of an H. P. Lovecraft story. Whatever his failures in keeping the US safe from known wolf terrorists, his biggest failure was presiding over the illegal immigration crisis that set Donald Trump on a glide path to the White House. On Thursday, Johnson was on CNN’s “New Day” program and he gave us a refreshing dose of honesty (via Daily Caller) Got to be honest with you, I don’t see that as a bad thing. When you consider the human cost of encouraging illegal immigration and then catching a lot of them and sending them home, how is anyone a winner? The illegal who is perpetually at risk of deportation? The legal immigrant that finds employment difficult because employers assume he’s illegal? The American taxpayer? The immigrants who spent their life savings to come here? The women and children diverted into the sexual commodities? Or a bag of pus like Johnson who can feel good about himself. The primary value that sets the United States apart from the rest of the world is that we are allegedly, as John Adams wrote, “a government of laws and not of men.” What Johnson did was stand that on its head and substituted his own judgment for the black-letter law of the nation.
