Karl, who has been ABC News' chief White House correspondent since 2012, will serve as the organization's president for the 2019-2020 term. Karl beat Dallas Morning News White House correspondent Todd Gillman for the WHCA's top role, winning 104 of 265 votes. He was also appointed to serve a three-year term on the WHCA's board of directors. Current WHCA President Jeff Mason of Reuters congratulated Karl in a tweet. The WHCA is a non-profit organization "whose mission is to ensure a strong free press and robust coverage of the presidency by advocating for access by the media to the President, White House events and administration officials."
