Article snippet: The State Department unit that focuses on Afghanistan and Pakistan is facing an uncertain future, after a spokesperson confirmed its head had left on Friday. The department’s acting representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Laurel Miller, has left the department along with one of her top aides and acting principal deputy assistant, according to Politico. Diplomats were first led to believe the office was being shut down, and would be integrated into the South and Central Asian Affairs Bureau, however spokeswoman Heather Nauert said Secretary of State Rex Tillerson had not yet decided what the future of the office would be. Nauert said the State Department will “maintain the Afghanistan and Pakistan Affairs Offices, which currently report to the Office of the Special Representative, to address policy concerns and our bilateral relationship with these two key countries. The secretary has not made a decision about the future of the Office of the Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan.” It is unclear who will lead SRAP in the mean time.   The Hill 1625 K Street, NW Suite 900 Washington DC 20006 | 202-628-8500 tel | 202-628-8503 fax The contents of this site are ©2017 Capitol Hill Publishing Corp., a subsidiary of News Communications, Inc.
