Joele Frank and George Sard, who lead two top strategic communications firms, told attendees at the Wall Street Journal's CFO Network annual meeting in Washington, D.C. that they need to be ready if Trump mentions their companies on Twitter. “If it’s negative, I think a company has to defend itself,” Frank said. Sard told attendees that Trump has targeted companies on issues like outsourcing jobs and product pricing, adding that companies should be prepared if they become a target. “If you look at the issues he’s tweeted about, it’s almost invariably jobs and pricing, especially if you sell something to the government, whether it’s drugs or airplanes,” Sard said. “So really make sure you have your story straight around your pricing and your U.S. jobs." Frank recommended that executives avoid tweeting back at Trump.  “If it feels really, really good, it’s probably a bad idea,” she said. Frank argued that companies shouldn't seek to fight, but rather keep their responses "bland." Trump has targeted several companies with his Twitter account since the election.
