While speaking Saturday at The People's Summit in Chicago, Sanders said Labour supporters were successful "not by moving to the right, not by becoming more conciliatory - they won those seats by standing up to the ruling class.” The anti-establishment senator praised his British counterpart before and after the U.K.’s general election. While Labour did not get a majority of seats in Parliament, they surpassed pollsters expectations and put the Conservative Party in a considerably weakened position "We may not have won the campaign in 2016, but there is no question that we have won the battle of ideas,” he said. The Vermont senator went on to appear to claim credit for the defeat of the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), saying five years ago U.S. trade policies were considered great, but now the TPP is defeated.
