Article snippet: Labor Party candidate Theresa May should step down. “The prime minister called the election because she wanted a mandate,” he said, according to The Guardian.  “Well the mandate she’s got is lost Conservative [Party] seats, lost votes, lost support and lost confidence. I would have thought that is enough for her to go actually.” Exit poll figures from the BBC released as polls closed suggested May’s Conservative Party will lose seats as a result of Thursday’s election, indicating the U.K. may be heading to a hung parliament. The Conservatives had 330 seats in parliament before the snap election compared to 229 for Labour, with a party needing 326 for a majority. Exit polls as of late Thursday night E.T. show the Conservatives losing 10 seats, and the Labour Party gaining 22 seats. The Liberal Democrats rank third with a gain of 4 seats, while the Scottish National Party lose 14 seats and the Democratic Unionist Party grabbed 2 seats. Election poll results are historically inaccurate in the U.K., and The Guardian noted poll results from the BBC and ITN are often off by double digits in terms of how many seats each party gains or loses. The results, if accurate at this time, appear to be a significant challenge for May’s goal of solidifying and strengthening her party’s majority. May was hoping to bolster the Conservative Party’s ranks before beginning the U.K.’s so-called Brexit from the European Union. The Hill 1625 K Street, NW Suite 900 Washington DC 20006 | 2...
